Announcement of Chongqing Medical University on the Global Recruitment for the Dean and Vice Dean of the Institute for Brain Science and Diseases

Chongqing Medical University (CQMU), formerly known as Chongqing Medical College until 1985, was founded in 1956 by partially relocating Shanghai First Medical College, which is now Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. CQMU was one of the first institutions approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to confer doctoral and master’s degrees. It was also among the first batch of demonstration bases approved by the Ministry of Education for international students to study in China. Moreover, it has become a university jointly supported by the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission, and the Chongqing Municipal Government since 2015.

Established in November 2021, the Institute for Brain Science and Diseases is the youngest and most active research institute at CQMU. It focuses on research related to brain development and brain diseases as well as the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods for brain diseases, so as to facilitate the transformation of related biopharmaceutical industries, create a world-leading brain science research platform, and cultivate innovative talents in the field of neuroscience to meet the demand of society.

Since its establishment, the institute has been designated as the leading organization to undertake a major program of “Brain Science and Brain-Like Research” under Science & Technology Innovation 2030, witha national funding ofRMB35 million. The institute has also established the“Major Brain Diseases and Aging”key laboratory, which was selected by the Ministry of Educationforfocusedcultivation and construction.It possesses alaboratory spaceof over5,000 square meters, largeequipment worth more thanRMB50 millionand a modern laboratory on the studies of animal behaviors.Currently, there are 7 full-timeprofessors and5 part-time professors, including 5 national-level talents, 7 doctoral supervisors, and 30graduate students.

I.Recruitment Positions

One dean and one vice dean for the Institute for Brain Science and Diseases of CQMU.

II.Qualifications for Applicants

i.The applicants are expected to demonstrate strong political integrity, adhere to the overall leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in universities, stay committed to the socialist principles of school running, possess a strong sense of mission and responsibility, maintain a global perspective, and exhibit good moral conduct.

ii.The applicants are expected to possess a relevant educational background and research experience with profound academic attainmentsrecognized by peers both nationally and internationally in thesamefield.Applicants should possess strategic perspectives and innovative thinking, as well as the ability to promote the sustainable advancement of the brain science discipline in the institute towards a world-class status.

For the Dean of the institute, recipients of national-level titles (such as the recipients of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and distinguished professors of the Changjiang Scholars Program) and other outstanding scholars from both China and abroad are preferred.

For the Vice Dean of the institute, recipients of national-level titles (such as the recipients of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and young scholars of the Changjiang Scholars Award Program) and other outstanding scholars from both China and abroad are preferred.

iii.The applicants are expected to be in good physical conditions toperform job duties. Applicants who are not currently an employee of CQMU shall ensure that they can work at the university on a full-time basis.

III.Recruitment Procedures

ii.Following the qualification review, the university will carry out an assessment andevaluationof the qualified applicants.

iii.Based on the results of the assessment andevaluation, the university will engage in deliberations to determine the candidates who will be offered the appointment.

IV.Remuneration for Appointed Candidates

Remuneration will be discussed and negotiated in person with the appointed candidates based on their qualifications and other factors.
